Willy Decker Slated to Make A Return to the
Adirondack Asphalt
April 1, 2007
It was a mere two years ago when Vernon’s (NY) Willy
Decker exited the Adirondack International Speedway
18 wins rich with thought of ever racing at the
spacious half-mile asphalt oval again.
When the facility dropped their
Dirt/Asphalt 358 Modified division in favor of the
popular and growing ASA Late Models during the fall
of 2004, Decker walked away wishing it wasn’t
happening. In their two-year stint at the Lewis
County oval, the Central New York team had it made.
“It didn’t cost us a dime to run there,” stated team
owner Tom Cullen. In thought of the easy maintenance
and light wear left on their #1x, Cullen has
frequently been heard to favor the asphalt if they
“could run it twice a week”. “We love it up there,”
he continued. “When you can go there and change just
tires through the night it made it pretty relaxing,
no only was it super easy on the car but it was easy
on us,” he coincided.
When the first phone call was made and
Cullen caught wind of a flash-back 358 Modified
event Adirondack was planning for Monday, May 28th,
the calendar date was immediately filled. The team
has confirmed that they will be in search of the
$2,000-to-win prize and are ready for the 40-lap
grind. “Be a little hard on tires won’t it?”
pondered Decker, himself a fan of the circular oval.
Knowing that tire conservation will be the main
concern Decker added, “it (the tire situation) will
be interesting.”
The 40-lap Monday, May 28th -
Memorial Day Special will get underway at 2pm at the
Adirondack International Speedway and will headline
the days events with support coming from the N.O.R.A.
Small-Block Supermodifieds. A $250-to-win Dirt
Sportsman Bonus will also be offered and rules are
set to be released soon.
