PAPIN, TYPHAIR, DUBACH, AND MCINTYRE TALLY
WINS AT ADIRONDACK ON
WWTI NEWSCHANNEL 50 NIGHT
New Bremen, N.Y. – Just two
races in and the competition level has reached its
peak. Made possible by WWTI Newswatch 50, John Papin
scored his first win of the season in the Lyndaker
Excavating & Trucking ASA Challenger Late Models
with the GotGoodCheese.com True Stock gold going to
Chris Typhair. Tom Dubach picked up his first career
D&D Powersports Sport Compact win while Lyons Falls’
Todd McIntyre brought home his second in a row in
the Westward Painting Company Light Trucks.
After finishing
brides’ maid to Lee Gill in the opening day
festivities John Papin took the lead on lap nine and
went on for his first win of the year in the
talent-driven class. Billy Coyle snagged the lead
at the drop of the green from his outside pole
position and led the 50-lap affair until lap eight
when he and Tommy Cloce would make contact exiting
turn four. Cloce, likely with the fastest car on the
track at that time spun as did Coyle and each were
able to continue on at the rear of the field. During
the melee Papin was given the top position with
Jerry Dineen in tow. On lap 19 Dineen’s fine
performance would begin to go by the wayside as he
began to be shuffled back in the running order. As
the laps ticked by Gill was found on the prowl.
Recovering from a lap three mishap, Gill looked to
chase down that of Papin but to no avail. Rolling
on, Papin took the checkers with Gill, Bryant Trim,
Cloce and Jason Herrington filling the top-five. “We
hit the setup much better this week,” spoke Papin.
“This win goes out to one of my faithful sponsors;
Lloyd Roes, we lost a great man in Lloyd just a
short while ago and the Roes family is just one of a
kind. I couldn’t thank them enough for what they
do,” he commented.
Of Philadelphia
(NY) Chris Typhair took the lead on lap four of the
GotGoodCheese.com True Stock 20-lap event and that
would be a spot he would never relinquish. Fending
off tight battles from several drivers, Typhair
outlasted them all, bringing his #29 Buick down to
the checkers tallying his first win of the season.
It was the 14th win of the former
champions’ career at AIS. Following Typhair down to
the stripe was Mike Ramos recording his second
runner-up finish of the year. Making up the rest of
the top-five was JR Mooney, Steve Burton and after
recovering from a mid-race flat tire, Tommy Markham.
“It was a long time
coming”, he quoted as he sat in victory lane.
Winning the D&D Powersports Sport Compact feature
going away this past Saturday night, Tom Dubach was
able to mark up his first career feature win. The
local resident and county sheriff, Dubach inched
ahead of Rudy Widrick on a lap three restart and
maintained the position solidly. With Widrick in
tow, the duo put on a whale of a show for 15-laps
while others did battle behind them. In the end it
was all Dubach holding on for the win while Widrick,
Al Brigham, Tim Ingersoll and Larry Costa completed
the top-five.
Todd McIntyre
notched his second win in a row in the Westward
Painting Company Light Truck division. The 2006
Track Champion took the lead from local upstart
Allen Miller on lap-five and led rookie David Beyer
down to the checkered flags. Filling the top-five
positions were Jim Trombley, brother to Todd; Tom
McIntyre and picking up his second top-five in as
many weeks; Bob McCanney.
Notes: Completed in
three hours and 15 minutes the four division show
was slowed by two oil spills and one red flag
condition that sent Sport Compact competitor Jeremy
Gracey to a local hospital. Gracey impacted the foam
barriers head on and at high speed exiting turn four
during the 15-lap feature event. Gracey was
transported to the hospital and later released. The
car was considered a write-off. John Papin and Carl
Guilefuss were the week’s winners of the
contingencies supplied for the ASA Challenger Late
Model division. The two should bring home a near
$2,000 combined in product money for being a part of
the program. Next week will be headlined by a
$400-to-win, 25-lap Westward Painting Company Light
Truck event and Todd McIntyre will be going for the
hat-trick at the biggest Light Truck payoff in the
history of the division.
