TOMMY CLOCE BAGS CAREER FIRST AT ADIRONDACK

NEW BREMEN , NY After a winless first-half of the 2007 season, Tommy Cloce of Canton made his long awaited trip to the checker board square at the Adirondack International Speedway Saturday in the Lyndaker Excavating & Trucking ASA Challenger Late Model division on Regent Broadcasting Night. Cloce, a former standout Asphalt Modified driver has called the Adirondack Speedway “home” this season and finally on Saturday night, “home” is where he felt. “After running the modifieds for so long, and coming here we learned awful quick that we wouldn’t walk in here like we did in the old Evans Mills days,” quoted Cloce, offering a true testament to the quality of the Late Model field at AIS. “We thought we’d be a regular down here in victory lane, but it just hasn’t been the case.” Other winners on Regent Broadcasting Night were Mike Ramos in the GotGoodCheese.com True Stocks, Al Brigham; D&D Powersports Sport Compacts, and Jim Trombley tallying his second in a row in the Westward Painting Company Light Trucks.

Chola Shay and Shane Monnat paced the ASA Late Model feature starting field down to the green flag with Shay jumping out to the early lead. The Matamoras, PA driver held the lead for the first several circuits before Cloce jumped into contention by lap 10. By lap 12, Cloce was on the rear bumper of Shay and just one lap later, took the lead and began to check-out.

On the move however was point leader John Papin. Papin, who started seventh, raced with Jason Herrington for several laps before the event was slowed on lap 20 for rain. Within 15 minutes, racing resumed and Cloce remained out front with Herrington holding off Papin for second. By lap 25, Herrington moved out of the groove and allowed the faster car of Papin to get by as he looked to chase down Cloce. Rounding out the top-five at this point was Chola Shay and Bryant Trim.

With the moisture in the air, Cloce would hold off all challenges by Papin enroute to his first career win at Adirondack . Following Papin across the line was Lee Gill for third, battling back from a lap-13 pit stop. Fourth was Herrington and fifth was Trim.

In the 20-lap GotGoodCheese.com True Stock event, Tommy Markham was out to a quick lead, looking to score his first career win on his 23rd birthday. Mike Ramos, after starting fourth was up to 2nd by lap-1 and proved to be Markham ’s biggest contender. Ramos and Markham ran door-to-door around AIS’ half-mile before Ramos took the advantage on lap 9. The rookie True Stock competitor motored on to his first win of the year in the division, while JR Mooney made a late pass of Markham for second. Markham, Art Newman, Jr., and Bancroft rounded out the top-five.

Lowville’s (NY) Al Brigham took the lead from Larry Costa on lap-13 of the 15-lap D&D Powersports Sport Compact feature event. It was the second feature win of the season for Brigham, who currently leads the point standings. Rounding out the top-five was Costa, Scott Shafer, Tim Ingersoll and Rudy Widrick.

In the Westward Painting Company Light Truck 20-lap feature event, a controversial start jarred the second half of the field early on but Tom McIntyre who started fifth would lead the first lap. Racing three-to-four wide during the opening laps Jim Trombley would be the first contender for McIntyre racing to his back bumper by lap seven. Shortly later, on lap 15 McIntyre would tangle with a lap truck sending him around bringing out a yellow flag. Shortly thereafter, McIntyre would be sent to the pits for rough riding that transpired under the yellow flag condition. With five laps to go it was Trombley shown holding off rookie driver Larry Williams as the two raced down to the checkered flag. Zach Arthur, David Beyer and Bob McCanney filled the front-five positions.

Coming up this Saturday, July 21 the Speedway will be closed in favor of the Lewis County Fair. The Speedway will reopen on Friday, July 27th for the kick off of the Sixth Annual NASCAR Weekend with TOTH Trucking Night. With the USAC Ford Focus Midgets planned to return there will also be the GotGoodCheese.com True Stocks, a 43-lap Art Matuszczak Memorial race for the D&D Powersports Sport Compacts as well as the Westward Painting Company Light Trucks. Gates will open at 4pm, with racing at 6:30pm. For more information, contact the track office at (315) 346-RACE, or visit www.adirondackspeedway.com.

PIT NOTES…The nights events were slowed three different times for the threat of rain. However, all events were completed shortly after 10:30pm. A great effort by teams, and track crew combined kept the surface in racey condition. The event was the first event completed since June 23rd as the last two events were claimed by Mother Nature. A total of 71 cars made up of four divisions packed the pits as car counts continued to rise at the Speedway .
