BANCROFT TOPS TRUE STOCKS; BRIGHAM WINS MEMORIAL RACE TO KICK OFF NASCAR WEEKEND AT ADIRONDACK

NEW BREMEN (NY) – For the sixth annual year NASCAR Weekend took center stage in New York State short-track racing. This past Friday night, at the prospering Adirondack International Speedway, a full slate of support division racing headlined the first of the two day event. Dylan Bancroft of Copenhagen (NY) won a classic battle in the GotGoodCheese.com True Stocks while Al Brigham topped the D&D Powersports Sport Compact challengers to win his first ever 43-lap Art Matuszczak Memorial Race. Other winners were Billy Aganier in the Westward Painting Company Light Trucks and Steven Intravaia in the USAC Northeast Ford Focus Midget Series.

After dodging late afternoon raindrops with near down-pour conditions and overcoming a near two hour rain delay the Adirondack International Speedway kicked off NASCAR Weekend in grand style all made possible by TOTH Trucking.

Bill Mono and Chris Typhair led the 20-car field down the starter Tim Barone’s green flag with third place starter, Tom Markham making the quick jump to the lead to take the top spot by lap one. Starting sixth, Bobby Newman proved to be quick as he took the runner-up position by lap three and immediately began to pressure Markham for the top position. One lap later, with contact pressure from JR Mooney behind him Newman ducked underneath the Markham machine to look for racing room before Markham looked to close the gap sending the two clashing on the homestretch. The incident brought out a yellow flag on lap five handing the lead to a barbaric Mooney. Maintaining the lead, Mooney remained out front with Mike Ramos, Bancroft, Dave Arbes and Chuck Meyer in tow. With lap traffic coming into play the top-three remained wheel-to-wheel down to the closing moments. With just five laps to go a dogfight for the top spot unveiled for Mooney and Ramos while Bancroft sat in the cat bird seat in third. With lap traffic heavy Bancroft made his way past Ramos and began to pressure Mooney for the lead. All three vying for the top position, the white flag waved with Mooney and Bancroft door-to-door. Heading down into turn three, Bancroft took a dive under Mooney and stole the show, down to the checkers it was Bancroft taking his second win of the season in the GotGoodCheese.com True Stocks. Following Bancroft was Ramos with a late charge followed by Mooney, Meyer and Arbes.

The Art Matuszczak Memorial event, paying tribute to the late former Sport Compact hotshoe took eight cars to the line for a 43-lap swaray. Al Brigham of Lowville (NY) took the lead from Rudy Widrick on lap nine and never turned back. With the action in the second and third positions, Tom Dubach outlasted Widrick to cap the runner-up position while Widrick, Tim Dunn and Scott Shafer rounded out the top-five.

In the Westward Painting Company Light Trucks, Billy Aganier took the lead from Kenneth Kirkbride on lap two of the 20-lap event and went on for his first career feature win at the Speedway. Aganier, of Lyons Falls (NY) fended off late-race challenges from point leader Todd McIntyre and Jim Trombley throughout the race to cap the finishing order. Finishing second was Trombley with McIntyre, Keith Delles and John Sullivan rounding out the top-five positions.

The USAC Northeast Ford Focus Midget Series made their first and only visit to the Speedway while Intravaia took the lead early on and went on for an easy victory. The division’s next stop will take place at Spencer Speedway this coming Saturday, August 11th.

Next week at the Speedway is Newschannel 50 Night with the GotGoodCheese.com True Stock 500 – “A Salute to the North Country Dairy Industry”, a $500-to-win event with bonuses to post a possible winners total of $750. Also in action will be the ASA Challenger Late Models as well as the Sport Compacts and Light Trucks. For more information visit www.adirondackspeedway.com or call (315) 346-RACE.
