HERRINGTON GOES THE DISTANCE, WINS CHAMP 101 AT ADIRONDACK
NEW BREMEN, NY – On Haun Welding Supply Night this past Saturday, Jason Herrington came into the nights events just one week removed of his first win of the year. Coming out of it, tack another win onto his 2007 track record as the Troy (NY) asphalt specialist picked up his second Lyndaker Excavating & Trucking ASA Challenger Late Model feature victory in grand fashion after leading wire-to-wire in the extra-distance “Champ 101”. Other winners on the night were JR Mooney, scoring his second win in as many weeks in the GotGoodCheese.com True Stocks, Scott Shafer tallying his third win of the year in the D&D Powersports Sport Compacts and Levi Kirkbride taking the win in the Westward Painting Company Light Trucks.
Herrington, who drew the pole for the 101-lap event, started his night off timing third quickest in his Rifenburg Construction/John Ray & Sons No. 37 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Onto the feature event, Herrington was the class of the field despite numerous challenges for the top position. Many times drawing door-to-door with Herrington was none other than track point leader John Papin. “It was awesome out there,” stated Herrington after the event. “If there is anyone else on the racetrack that I’d like to race alongside with, it’d be John (Papin),” noted Herrington. “He is a class act and a pleasure to compete with.”
With
Papin drawing position number four in the starting lineup,
Herrington had known his hands would be full, quick. How quick? By lap
seven. However, once lap traffic came into the thick of things it was
Herrington who held the upper hand. Nearly all race long, lap traffic
remained a factor with the front running cars, and
Herrington outclassed
the rest through it all. The action proved hot on lap 73 when the top-five
finally stood alone. With 25 laps to go
Herrington remained out
front with Papin, Bryant Trim, Lee Gill and Tommy Cloce in tow. The top-five sat
idle all trading lanes and dicing high and low before Trim gathered his momentum
in the late stages, taking second away from Papin on lap 98. With two to go Trim
went high on Herrington
but couldn’t find enough speed to make the pass. Drawing door-to-door Trim lost
to the odds of the high groove and then would lose position a lap later as Papin
motored back by on the bottom. In the end the top-five would be
Herrington, Papin, Trim,
Gill and Cloce.
In the
GotGoodCheese.com
True Stocks JR Mooney made a late race pass on Mike Ramos to collect his second
win of the year. After starting in the ninth position, Mooney jumped into the
top five by lap three. Just a bit quicker on the accelerator was Ramos however
as Ramos was shown the leader at the same point. As Mooney moved into fifth on
lap five the two ran bumper-to-bumper through the halfway point of the 20-lap
event. By lap 11 Mooney was looking for speed high and low in hopes to make the
pass on Ramos. On lap 14 Mooney made it stick through turns three and four to
snag the lead and go on for the victory. Ramos was second followed by Dave Arbes,
Art Newman, Jr., and Tom Markham.
Scott Shafer finally pulled the hat trick in the D&D Powersport Sport Compact
division. Shafer, winless until 2007 now has gotten accustomed to victory lane.
The Oswego (NY) resident started outside the front row of the 15-lap feature
event and rolled onward to the victory, his third of ’07. Following through in
the top-five was Tim Dunn, Rudy Widrick, Al Brigham and Tom Dubach.
In the Westward Painting Company Light Trucks, Ken Kirkbride and Jimmy Wood led the 23-truck field down to starter Tim Barones green flag. Kirkbride took early command while Dave Keefer was the quickest of the field at the starting point. Moving into second Keefer began to challenge the elder Kirkbride for the top spot. However, by lap eight Bill Aganier was charging along the top-side and motored into the lead with his No. 77 Ford Ranger. Aganier led through the halfway point and down to the checkers, however, refusal of tear down turned the win over to Levi Kirkbride. Second was John Sullivan followed by Steve Ellis, John Sullivan, Sr., and David Keefer.
