Locals Make Adirondack International Speedway an Integral Part of their
Holidays
NEW BREMEN, N.Y. – When the Adirondack International Speedway came to life back in 2001 many envisioned the makings of a future racing-fevered community. Now just five short years later, it has become just that for a several number of families.
The last thing someone would have thought is a portion of these families bringing racing at AIS into their Christmas cheer. On a brisk afternoon, and the grounds clear of snow, presents weren’t being opened. All to the contrary, racecars were being loaded to trailers, and the family was packing into the hauler for a day at the racetrack.
This past Monday on Christmas Day, three local teams brought their racers to the half-mile on Artz Rd. and took to the asphalt surface for an off-season practice session. Compromised of the Brigham family of Lowville, the Typhair Family of Philadelphia, and the Yancey’s of Croghan, the speed-spirited group made a number of laps at New York’s Premier Short-Track Asphalt Racing facility. Also appearing was track owner Paul Lyndaker and the jolly man himself, Saint Nick. Albeit recovering from a sleepless night, Santa Claus made his first appearance at AIS capping off a true holiday celebration for all involved.
To the delightfulness of Christopher and Dillon Typhair, sons of 2005 AIS True Stock Track Champion, Chris Typhair; Santa took the time to stop for pictures and greetings for the young boys. Local veterinarian, Dr. Sam Yancey was able to turn his first number of laps aboard his recently purchased Ford Mustang True Stock. The car was the machine that took Castorland’s Chuck Meyer to the 2006 True Stock Track Championship. Yancey is likely to compete in it come the spring time opener in 2007. Al Brigham brought his #29 Sport Compact machine too the Speedway along with his son Jason. The both of them are multi-time feature winners at AIS, while Jason was also the 2003 Sport Compact Division Track Champion.
With the off-season in full-effect, the staff at AIS has continued to plan for 2007. With the full '07 schedule being prepared for upcoming release and the Speedway beginning to undergo fine-tuned changes, this coming sixth year of racing at AIS is expected to be the best yet. Season Grandstand and Season Pit Passes have been available during the past month and are quickly being purchased. While a Christmas discount has been available during the course of December, it has been announced that the discount will stay in effect through the New Year.
